The Invitation to Scatter and Scatter the Invitation

The Invitation to Scatter and Scatter the Invitation

Key Bible Verses

Luke 8:4-8

Digging Deeper

Many people today are lost and don’t know Jesus as their Lord and Savior. The Holy Spirit guides believers to have the right words to share God’s love and truth with those who are searching. As believers, we aim to share the Gospel message with compassion, boldness, and effectiveness so that the lost may come to know Jesus Christ and God's great love for them.

What are practical ways to share the Gospel?

  • Pray for God to point our conversations to be about Jesus.

  • Be relational and get to know the person you are sharing with.

  • Ask about their life story.

  • Share your story and include how you came to faith in Jesus.

  • Share the Gospel.

    • Jesus died.

    • Jesus rose again.

    • Jesus paid the price for our sins on the cross.

    • Those who trust in Jesus have eternal life and a relationship with Him.

  • Invite them to respond to the message.

  • Set up a time to follow up on their decision and take the next steps to help them grow in their faith.

God made all belivers to be a light in the dark world. He has given every follower the ability to express with words and actions a reflection of the love and grace of God, which point others toward hope in Jesus as their Savior in a hopeless world in need of salvation.

What Not To Miss

The Invitation to Scatter and Scatter the Invitation.

A Story of Reckless Invitation (Luke 8:4-8)

  • This farmer was a seed-throwing machine.

  • He was reckless, bold, relentless!

  • The seed was the Gospel, the story of Jesus and the love of God.

  • The sower is us if we are Christians, and we are called to scatter the seed, the Good News.

Where should we extend the invitation to encounter God’s love, grace, and the message of Jesus?

  • Everywhere!

When should we extend the invitation to God’s love, grace, and the message of Jesus?

  • All the time!

Why should we scatter the seed and extend the invitation even when the soil might not look receptive?

  • We are not smart enough to know when someone's heart is ready to accept Jesus.

This is the invitation of Jesus to scatter the seed.

  • Deny yourself.

  • Take up your cross.

  • Follow me.

This is the invitation of Jesus, a call to reckless faith that costs everything!

How can we, as individuals and as a congregation here at Northland Church, scatter the seed of the Gospel and extend the invitation?

  • Love people as Jesus does.

  • Pray for and with people when God opens the door.

  • Engage freely and often in spiritual conversations.

  • Tell your story (and His Story) of faith and transformation.

When you get to the end of the parade route, how much candy will you have thrown?

Life Application

This week, pray and consider where, when, and how you are invited to spread the Gospel. Evaluate what situations you might encounter as you scatter the invitation to the Gospel. Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you as you share your faith, and allow the Holy Spirit to work through you as you love and care for people who need to hear the Gospel's Good News.

Small Group Discussion Questions

  • Describe something that you have grown that thrived and flourished.

  • What are the four soils where the seeds fell?

  • What do these soils represent?

  • What does this mean for the believer today?

  • How does this parable teach us about planting the seeds of the Gospel?

Prayer

Dear Lord, I want to be a faithful witness who shares the Gospel in different circumstances and situations. With the help of the Holy Spirit, give me the wisdom and discernment to know what to say and how to say it. Give me the boldness to break through barriers and cultural differences. Help me not to be discouraged and fearful, and continually remind me that Your Spirit works in the hearts of those who hear the Gospel. May my words and actions be a witness to Your love and grace, drawing others to You.
