Student Leadership Academy

The Northland Student Leadership Academy is a life-transforming opportunity to participate with a cohort of similarly-minded students to learn and integrate across three distinct spheres.

Discipleship

Participants will be intentionally discipled in a D-Group (2-3 people) by a mature Jesus follower.

Leadership

The cohort will continue their leadership journey through an academic and practical leadership development process while being individually coached.

Service

Giving through service to a focused area within the NextGen ministry in addition to other Northland service opportunities.

The Academy is designed for junior or senior high schoolers and students in their first two years of college, trade school, career or gap year.

  • Cohorts will range from 6-12 participants, as evenly distributed as possible (male/female, high school/post high school).

  • Approximately 15 hours per week - 5 hours for discipleship, 5 hours for leadership development/coaching and 5 hours of service at Northland.

  • You bet! Some of the discipleship and leadership work is self-directed - you fit it into your schedule. You and your discipler/coach will schedule one-on-one time based on your mutual schedules. Service time is dependent on NextGen programming, but some service functions may be time-flexible.

  • Yes. You will be paid approximately 10 hours per week for your discipleship and leadership work. You will be paid $15/hour. The service component of the internship is unpaid because you will be serving alongside others who are not paid for their service.

  • The Academy will operate with three “semesters”: Jan-May, Sept-Dec.

Why should you join the Academy?

  1. Your walk with Jesus will be strengthened through the discipleship process.

  2. You will gain valuable learning and insight into applied leadership through assessments, teaching workshops, action learning and individual coaching.

  3. You will experience the satisfaction of serving your church family while gaining practical experience in your area of interest/focus.

  4. This real-life practical experience is something that will set you apart on applications for school and/or employment.  Employers are looking for young adults who have taken initiative outside the traditional classroom and part-time jobs.

What is my first step?

Selection of the participants is through an application and interview process.  Your first step is completing the online application. Application deadline is January 5, 2025.
