Mission   

To raise up the Church to provide welcoming hands and spaces for vulnerable children and their families so they may come to know Christ. In Matthew 18:5, Jesus said: "anyone who welcomes a little child like this on my behalf is welcoming me."

The Foster Care Situation

• Foster care is a system in which a minor is placed by gov’t. or a social agency into a ward, group home, or private home of a state-certified caregiver. 

• 400,000 children are currently living in foster care in the USA.

Fostering is Hard

• It takes faith, time, money, and emotion to care for vulnerable children and without support the role of a foster parent can feel nearly impossible.

• 50% of fostering families quit fostering within their first year.

• FAMs result in 90% of foster families continuing past their 1st year.

We Can Make a Difference

Northland church is creating Family Care Communities consisting of 6 to 8 adults to support one fostering family. We call this supporting community a Family Advocacy Mission or FAM. Each FAM has both Family Helpers and a Team Leader.

Role of Family Helpers – Serves by:

• praying for their foster family

• delivering a meal once a month on the same day, same week each month. 

• occasionally helping with errands, homework, laundry, or in other ways.

Role of the Team Leader – Each FAM has a leader who serves by:

• praying for their foster family

• contacting the foster family and sending a weekly email to the team on prayer requests or other needs. 

• occasionally helping with errands, homework, laundry, or help in other ways.

Time Commitment – One Year  

• Initial training 2 – 3 hours.

• Once a month volunteering 1 – 2 hours.
