Homeless Response, by Becky Hunter
There are so many things that I admire about Northland. But there is nothing I admire more than this congregation’s heart for God and compassion for people! Gathering for worship and distributing for service — what better ways are there to “bring up there down here”!
I don’t know if you know this, but the job of Northland’s church staff is to make sure the rest of us are equipped to do the ministry that God gives us! The incredibly competent staff team pictured here leads Northland’s partnership in the Community Resource Network (CRN). They will help some of us assist personally with homeless families and will equip others of us to handle the behind the scenes efforts that will assure the most people are assisted in the best ways!
In addition to making sure that the more than 300 of us, who signed up just this past weekend to help with this, have what we need to do our part, this team will stay fully engaged with the larger faith community, both resourcing and networking. They, and we, are in this for the long haul, because it’s going to take more than a minute or two to reach the goal of ending homelessness in this tri-county area. It’s especially hard to guess how long it might actually take since Central Florida has the appalling distinction of having the highest population of homeless folks in the entire nation! But think about it this way. We can bemoan the fact there are so many here or we can thank God that He put all these people, that He dearly loves, near us and is giving us, church, this significant opportunity to help so many of them! In fact, relishing a chance to make life better for so many, Joel recently accepted the role of chairman of The Central Florida Commission on Homelessness, and is thrilled that all of us get to work together on this!
If you want to be part of this incredible ministry initiative, but didn’t have a chance to sign up, just fill out our signup form here, connect with Evan at email@example.com or call 407-937-1807. If you signed up you will be receiving an email that covers next steps, including a volunteer dinner in early December where more information will be shared and opportunities will be explained.
